The Agapè Food Bank Launches Annual Spring Food Drive
April 6th, 2011
Cornwall, Ontario – The Agapè Food Bank is working hard this season to ensure there is enough food to feed our neighbours during the summer. This April Food Drive is a huge effort to source food for Cornwall residents who are in need and this year the need is even greater.
Tragically, 20% of Cornwall’s children go to school hungry and a successful Spring Food Drive ensures the Agapè Food Bank can continue to annually distribute over 165,000 meals to meet the growing needs of our hungry neighbours.
“Our goal of collecting 10,000 lbs. of food is our hightest target ever for a Spring Food Drive,” said Alyssa Blais, Executive Director as the Agapè Food Bank officially kicks off its 2011 Spring Food Drive.
“The challenge today with the rising food prices, coupled with the increases in the price of gasoline and household energy, many Cornwall citizens have to choose between paying their rent or put food on the table,” says Alyssa.
Starting today until May 7th, residents of Cornwall can make a difference by purchasing or bringing non-perishable food items and dropping them off to the Agapè Center and at these select stores: Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer and No Frill’s from April 8th until April 28th, Metro on Vincent Massey Drive from April 15 until May 12 and Giant Tiger on May 7th
Our local Curves owner, Mona Miller is also collecting food until April 17th as part of the 13th Annual Curves Food Drive held around North America to benefit food banks.
Much needed items are: peanut butter, canned fruit and vegetables, canned stew, dry pasta, juice (boxes, jugs, or cans), pasta sauce, baby food and formula
Opportunities are also available for groups to organize their own internal food drive. For more information and ideas for promotion, contact Alyssa Blais at 613.938.9297 x:23
