Volunteers at the Agape Centre help out once again during Tax Season

February 17, 2011

Once again the Agape Center has partnered up with the Canada Revenue agency to bring you The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. Introduced in 1971, this program was intended to ensure that all taxpayers had equal access to the tax system. The CVITP is a source of pride for the CRA, and each year over 16,000 volunteers associated with nearly 3,000 community partners, help more than 501,000 Canadians file their tax returns.

A group of trained Volunteers will be completing tax returns, free of charge, for those who qualify at the Agapè Center this Tax Season. To qualify you must be a single person earning up to $25 000 annually, a couple earning up to $35 000 annually, or one adult with child earning up to $30 000 (adding $2 000 for each additional dependant). Unfortunately the service can not be offered for those claiming a return for a deceased person, individuals who file for bankruptcy, individuals who report capital gain or losses, self-employed individuals, individuals who report employment expenses, business or rental income and expenses or new Canadian citizens claiming for their first time. The center is now booking appointments starting Tuesday February 22nd. Please call 613-938-9297 to make your appointment.
